PSAT 8/9
Information about the 2023-2024 PSAT will be available soon.
Kennedale High School will offer the PSAT 8/9 (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) to interested 9th grade students. The cost of the PSAT 8/9 is $14.00. The PSAT 8/9 evaluates the skills each student has developed in Reading, Writing & Language, and Math; it also provides tools for a student to reach his or her college and career goals. Because the PSAT 8/9 evaluates the same skills as the PSAT/NMSQT and SAT, taking this assessment is an effective way for a student to start preparing for the SAT. Additionally, the PSAT 8/9 gives each student personalized feedback about their academic strengths and weaknesses. Scores from PSAT 8/9 are not used in any scholarship or recognition programs however, the results collected from PSAT 8/9 can be used to help students understand their college and career readiness at the time they enter high school.
The PSAT 8/9 includes 2 hours and 25 minutes of actual testing time and 20 minutes of breaks and instructions and is given online. There will be tests in Reading, Writing and Language, Math, and a variable section with questions from all three areas. The College Board notes that all questions on the PSAT 8/9 can be solved without the use of a calculator, but calculators are allowed on one portion of the Math section only.
